NPA+

Bridge the gap from short films to features
For rising voices in film production

New Producers Academy presents NPA+

NPA+ is the next step beyond the original New Producers Academy Fellowship. It is designed for underrepresented and diverse producers who are ready to move from short films into the feature film spotlight.

The program supports producers in taking the crucial step toward developing their first feature film. By the end of the NPA+ program, each participant will have a market-ready film plan and financing strategy ready for submission to national or regional development funds.

Unlike initiatives that focus only on individual projects, NPA+ is designed to develop producers themselves. Strong producers are vital to building a sustainable and diverse film industry. Through intensive coaching and mentorship, participants gain the skills, industry connections and resources they need to become leaders in both fiction and documentary feature film production.

This program is for emerging producers from underrepresented and diverse backgrounds who have successfully produced short films but have not yet gained the experience or industry connections needed to move into feature-length production.

FAQ

Although the program is primarily designed for producers, applications are only accepted from creative teams of three consisting of a producer, a director and a screenwriter. The director and the screenwriter must be two different people and one person cannot fill both roles.

No. Participation in the NPA+ Lab does not guarantee a place in the full program.

After the Lab and pitch sessions, the selection committee will choose the final five creative teams who will be invited to take part in the complete NPA+ program.

Unfortunately this is not possible. In the past we welcomed animation projects in our fellowship program for short films, but the production process for animation differs too much for us to provide the same quality of support in the NPA+ feature development program.

You will need to attend the NPA+ Lab in November 2025 and the three training weeks in 2026. In addition, plan time between the training weeks to work with your team on the development of your film plan.

The training is intensive and aims to prepare every project for a serious script development application.

You are expected to be present at all three training weeks and to complete the homework assignments between the sessions. There will be at least four weeks between the end of each training week and the deadline for the related assignments.

Yes, full participation is required. We ask you to commit to all training weeks and assignments.

The strength of NPA+ lies in the shared experience of working closely with tutors and fellow participants. If you already know that you cannot take part in the full program, please be open about this and consider whether applying is the right step for you.

If you are selected we will contact you to discuss travel times and logistics for each training location.

If needed, we can help you find suitable accommodation to make your attendance easier.

Yes, you may apply with a completed script.

Please keep in mind that NPA+ is not a script development program. The focus is on the stage that comes before script development. During the program you will work on presenting your project clearly, creating a treatment, shaping the artistic vision and defining the positionality and communication strategy.

Yes. Your application must include a two-page pitch for a fiction or non-fiction feature film project.

During the program you will refine and expand this idea into a complete, market-ready film plan.

We request these documents so the selection committee can fully understand the producer’s vision in both the financial and scheduling aspects of the project.

A clear financial plan shows how the project will be funded and sustained, while the timeline outlines the key phases from preparation through completion.

Together, these materials help the committee evaluate the feasibility and overall potential of each application.
